Photoreal Worlds at Scale: From Capture to Generation
When
Wednesday, 01 July 2026
11:30–12:30
abstract: Building photorealistic virtual worlds at the scale of the real one is becoming central to autonomous vehicles, robotics, and immersive human experiences. These environments need to be reconstructed from sensors, extended through generation, and rendered in real time. Two parallel tracks have driven recent progress: explicit 3D reconstruction post-NeRF, and internet-scale generative video and 3D foundation models. The most interesting work increasingly combines them. This talk walks through three works that span the space. SimULi shows real-time joint camera and LiDAR simulation for autonomous vehicles, with its core renderer now in production within NVIDIA's NuRec product. ArtiFixer closes the loop between per-scene reconstruction and large-scale video generation. Déjà View shows that the path to scaling 3D foundation models runs through structural priors: weight-tied iteration lets a 117M-parameter model match feed-forward baselines an order of magnitude larger. bio: Haithem Turki is a Senior Research Scientist at NVIDIA's Spatial Intelligence Lab, where he works with Zan Gojcic and Sanja Fidler. His research focuses on reconstructing, simulating, and generating 3D worlds, with a particular interest in the intersection of reconstruction and generative modeling. Recent work spans scalable neural scene reconstruction, real-time sensor simulation, and 3D content generation, and includes a CVPR Best Paper Honorable Mention. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University under Deva Ramanan, following seven years at Palantir Technologies in product and engineering leadership roles, and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Stanford University.
